How changes at the USPS can affect your job

Effective March 29, 2009, changes at USPS regarding Commercial Flat-Size Mail will affect how you design some of your direct mail.

Here's what's happening in a nut shell - the post office is changing the requirements for both placement and address characteristics for all mail going out as flats.

Affecting all Periodicals, Standard Mail and Package Services Flats mailed presort, carrier route and at automation pricing (optional for First-Class Mail,) this new policy requires the delivery address to be in the top half of the mail piece. In addition, your mail shops must adhere to new address characteristics standards such as changes to minimum size, style and spacing of the address block. See this cheat sheet for more specific details.
