-Techie version - G7TM, the new IDEAlliance proof-to-print process, is based on principles of digital imaging, spectrophotometry, and computer-to-plate (CtP) technologies. G7 is currently being applied to many types of printing including commercial and publication printing.
The goal of G7 is to specify a simple calibration process that will help reliably
achieve a close "visual match" from proof to press. G7 breaks from tradition by focusing on colorimetric data for gray balance in the mid-tones rather than on densitometric aims, i.e. dot gain, for each color.
G7 is the core of the latest SWOP and GRACoL specifications which emphasize gray
balance over traditional objective measurements such as density and dot gain. These specifications go beyond single-channel density metrics to ensure that process colors overprint neutral and balanced. The result is improved gray balance, color stability and color appearance matching across multiple printing processes. What this all means is that we make our press sheets match your proofs easier and quicker thereby keeping your costs down and your jobs on schedule.
-Plain English version (much shorter) - The G7 proof-to-print process helps Independence Press ensure that our press sheets match your proofs easier and quicker thereby keeping your costs down and your jobs on schedule.
"How did we do it?"
The G7 Master Printer Program requires an audit of press color measurement equipment, process control procedures and verification of print quality to qualify for program measurement. Needless to say, we're proud we've achieved the highest level of compliance with this program.
